Alternative folk/country singer songwriter born Simon van Baalen in 1973 in a remote fishing village in Cornwall (UK) to Dutch and Irish parents, the youngest of four siblings later took his stepfathers surname Abbondandolo culminating in the lasting nick name "abbo."

A brief description of me

After spending the last few years traveling with my guitar and touring my solo project from New York's Greenwich Village, heading east playing in Brighton, London, France, Beirut, Qatar, Dubai, Manila, Boracay Island (Philippines) and ending some years later performing in Sydney and Bondi Beach, I felt it was time to develop some of the many musical ideas gathered from being on the road and to stop somewhere long enough to record again.

Settling for now (2012) in Dubai, I'm hard at work at what I say is my best work to date.

In Addition:

In this ever evolving world that is the music business I love so much I also work as a performance coach and songwriting coach for you budding artists and songwiters out there. Collaborations can and often do come from this which enriches others as well as my own creative output.

For the past few years I have also worked as a freelance photographer (my other great passion) to ensure I constantly remain creative.

Previous to all the music and art that I am lucky enough to have as my working life now, I worked as an aircraft engineer for over 10 years, but eventually took the difficult step to transform my world into a creative one and now engineering is my much loved hobby while I work hard at my music, writing and photography full time.

I love what I do, so if you feel you may benefit from a pair of "Outside Ears" (as I call it) and some coaching to help with your song writing, or would like to advance with your performance skills then feel free to drop me a line at any of the contact details on this page I would be excited to think I could help you advance in your own desires towards a creative career.

If you have questions I may be able to answer, that may be all you need.

Speak soon and thank you for your time,

abbo.

My Very Own Blog

Dec

2011

My first ever time.

For my first ever blog post I am inspired to write about the top 5 tunes I have been lucky enough to discover over 2011.

This was not really the intention as my first blog, but I guess I have to start somewhere and what better way than letting you all know the kind of music I have had on repeat more times than I can mention.

That is basically the criteria for these 5 tunes, I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

In no particular order:

Number one is Kate Daisy Grant and the beautiful song "Place at your Table"

you can find out more about this amazingly inovative songwriter by following her on twitter Here Go buy her album you won't regret it.

My only claim to fame I have with any of these 5 artists belongs to Kate. I once helped her purchase her very first bicycle, and kinda helped her learn to ride it. Fact!

Next is a young man called Ben Howard and his song "The Fear"

This is an incredible song from such a young fresh talent.

I don't really know much about Ben, but I'm sure (as with all the others on this list) we are all gonna hear more of him in 2012. I must check his website to find out more, You should too Here

Ok, Number three on the list is a Gentleman called James Vincent McMorrow, and I have to thank a friend I have never met for introducing me to this one. I'm always happy discovering new music as I still proclaim, my favorite band in the world is still out there somewhere and I am yet to discover them.

This song is called "We Don't Eat"

Once again you can find out more about James Here

Nearly at the end of my Very first ever Blog, Hope you are all enjoying it, and the music you find here may inspire you as much as it has inspired me.

If it was possible to have any wish for 2011 it would be to have written these 5 songs and put them on my own Ep, I think I could sit back happy and be satisfied I had written something incredibly special that couldn't be improved upon.

Next Number four is a song by a lady called Cyra Morgan, the song is called "Shine", there isn't a video for this I don't think so I have put her soundcloud track up here. Beautifully beautifully simple and impactful.

Im playing all of these songs again as I write this Blog and it's all a great conformation of how much these songs deserve to be here, even if it is just my humble opinion.

Here is Cyra's Souncloud page, I suggest you go visit her work.

Ok Finally, Number Five, and by no means have I put these in any particular order, apart from separating the ladies, and maybe putting this one as the final one here because it was discovered before the others early this year.

Bon Iver and "Skinny love" Amazing.

He has quite a beautiful site too if you want to check it out it's Here

That's it. My first blog finished, I hope you enjoyed the talent I put on offer, I would like to say I shyed away from to many descritive words for the links I put on here to these artists as I hoped you took a look and listen for yourselves to find out how amazing they are without having me distract you with my version of what I thought about when I listened to these great tracks. All I will say is the same as at the beginning. These songs have been on repeat many more times than any other songs this year. I hope you can now see why.

Take good care all and I wish you all the very best for the coming year. I'm excited and I hope you are too.

Much love, abbo
